Green Living With Ample Green

Green Living
It’s never too early to introduce kids to green living techniques, and when fun is involved, the kids won’t even know they’re working towards making their planet more eco-friendly.

These fun tips will teach kids green living and they’ll have fun while they learn.

Assign Your Kids Light Patrol Duty

Give your kids the important job of making sure all the lights are turned off before leaving home or going to bed. Buy an inexpensive police type hat and allow the child who has light patrol duty to have the hat for one week and wear it while on light patrol, then pass the hat to another child the following week.

If you are a crafty person, use fabric paint or embroidery on the hat to place the words “Light Patrol Officer” on the hat to make the child feel even more special.

Recruit Kids As Junior Recyclers

Discuss with your kids the everyday household items that can be recycled, then have them make boxes for each recyclable item and label the boxes. Give the kids appropriate sized boxes, old newspapers and other needed craft supplies so they can decorate and label their boxes for the recyclable items that should be placed in the boxes. Put your kids in charge of their boxes and to remind other family members to place aluminum, plastic, paper, etc., in the recycle boxes.

Involve Kids In Charitable Donations

When parents are cleaning out closets and gathering up household items to give as charitable donations, it’s often done while the kids are in school so we don’t have a scene with our kids when we want to clear out some of their toys. Getting the kids involved in choosing which toy(s) to part with will teach them the value of giving to others. Explain to your kids that they have many toys while other kids do not have any toys at all, and by giving away just one unwanted toy they own, they will be making another child happy.

Use Online Resources To Teach Kids Green Living

Older kids can use online resources that are kid-friendly to learn about green living. The green ideas that kids get using online resources can be discussed at the family dinner table and implemented within the home. There are many online resources aimed at teaching kids green living ideas, a good one to start with is the one I’ve listed at the bottom of this article, which has more fun tips for teaching kids green living.
